Magic Monday: Cultivating an Attitude of Gratitude

This Magic Monday, we focus on the importance of developing a regular spirit of gratefulness.

Within our hectic schedules each week, it’s typically much easier to think of things that stress us out than of things that make us happy. It seems counterproductive to pause (I mean, who has time for that?), to take even just 30 seconds to specifically call out something for which we are grateful.

However, scientific research shows an “attitude of gratitude” can significantly increase individual happiness as well as mental resilience. This process occurs by introducing more of everyone’s favorite natural ‘drug,’ caffeine dopamine, which functions as a neurotransmitter in our brain and contributes to our feelings of pleasure, or satisfaction. This short video efficiently explains in an easily consumable way, precisely the effects gratitude can have in our brains.

It’s so easy to dwell on everything going wrong, or that could go wrong – and, we certainly should be mindful of these things when it comes to planning and logistics! But, if we are to dwell on something, let it be on gratitude. And hey, here’s a fun tip: A great way to experience gratitude right now is recognizing other people for how they have helped you. Whether it’s something big, like finishing a project or small, like picking up your cup of coffee, take the time to say thanks! It’ll boost their mood and yours.

What are you grateful for today?
